Want to save water and be eco-friendly? Simple: outsource your laundry!
Content Summary

We are all only too aware that water is a precious resource. We know all too well that it is very essential for life.

But in a world where the increasing global population has added pressure, climate change has become a reality and water in many regions is now a scarcity, it is our imperative – as individuals and everyday consumers – to conserve, conserve, conserve.

Let’s stop the gushing flow of our everyday routines for a minute – and hear what the UN has to say when it made water conservation an important part of its Sustainable Development Goals #6

Also, here’s some astonishing news that could completely take you by surprise…

What-a-Shocker #1: Did you know that one-fourth of the water going down the drain at home is from your washing machine?
Content Summary

That’s around 10 average buckets of water for one single basket of laundry. So, if every home draws this much water on every load, day in and day out, you can do the math. The water is also not reused at all, so it just goes down the drain. (As an aside, dryers are the second largest energy consumers at home. So as carbon footprint goes, doing laundry at home isn’t the smart thing to do.)

What-a-Shocker #2: Did you know that some harsh and harmful detergents can make that wastewater detrimental to several species of sea life?
Content Summary

Phosphates, that are found in harsh chemical washing machine powders, have been banned from detergents by several countries. When phosphates, in large volumes, flow through waterways, they encourage the growth of algae in lakes and rivers. However, the algae then consume all of the dissolved oxygen in the water. This means that fish and other marine life have nothing left to sustain them, leading to their rapidly depleting numbers. (We don’t want to contribute to that now, do we?)

What-a-Shocker #3: Did you know synthetic fibres in wastewater can also pollute oceans to a significant extent
Content Summary

Microfibres are tiny plastic particles from synthetic clothes that don’t get filtered during the average wash, so they land up in our oceans or in the soil making them toxic in the long run. Filters to catch these microfibres can help to some extent, but how many home washing machines across the country have them? How many users know about them? So thousands of plastic particles – in fact, several hundred thousand fibres in just one laundry load – could get sent out to the oceans without our knowledge. (Gosh, so much already gone, below our sea and see level!)

What-a-Shocker #4: Did you know that leaky pipes from your washing machine often waste puddles of water that go unnoticed?
Content Summary

Sometimes, during a fast spin cycle, the washing machine shakes heavily and the hose could spring a leak. The trouble is, if it’s a water connector leak, the water will begin running directly from the supply line or start forming puddles under or behind the machine. This is not good for the home because stagnant water is a breeding ground for mosquitoes and other bacteria. It’s not good for the planet because it’s a totally unnecessary waste. (Quite the oops moment, once we realise this!)

Suitably convinced that we have to do out bit to conserve precious water? How do you start? Here’s a delightfully-shocking fact. One amazingly easy and absurdly simple way is to

… hold your breath…

H2Oh-Wow Fact #1: High-efficiency machines use a whole lot less water
Content Summary

As a professional laundry service, we at LaundryMate’s world-class facility, use advanced machines that factor in sustainability. Did you know, for starters, that an average load rinsed in a washing machine at home consumes as many as 70 litres of water? So by outsourcing to us, you are immediately reducing not just hours spent on a boring chore but even the amount of water used. Congratulations, you’re doing good.

H2Oh-Wow Fact #2: High-capacity loads optimise and save water
Content Summary

The LaundryMate process also has another advantage. Our machines handle bigger loads of laundry at one go since they are built for a much larger capacity. This means that we control overall water usage yet again. Had you done the clothes yourself at home, load sizes would have varied and you’d have wasted a lot more water without even knowing it. Also, with us you can optimise your time and energy too, using both for more fulfilling things. Kudos to you for breaking a habit and making a positive change.

H2Oh-Wow Fact #3: High-precision stain treatments save significant amounts of water

This can help save all those buckets of water – not to mention the tedious wait-n- watch time. Your garments can come out fresh, clean and stain-free – all while being eco- friendly. Your conscience feels clean and spotless too, doesn’t it?
