We stumbled upon a few fascinating trends that have significantly altered laundry habits in Bengaluru homes.
As we say goodbye to 2023 and enter a new dawn in 2024, it’s always a good time to observe and reflect on the year gone by.
We looked back at the laundry landscape and found some meaningful insights that we felt, made for an interesting read. These learnings will obviously be our guiding light for the new year ahead.
In the vibrant city of Bengaluru, where innovation and modernity are our driving forces, we find ourselves immersed in a captivating laundry story that unfolded in 2023. In our recent observations of lifestyle and habit dynamics, we stumbled upon a few fascinating trends that have subtly but significantly altered laundry practices at home.
What caught our attention is how these laundry routines are transforming and how convenience and saving time on unavoidable chores like laundry are slowly emerging as an important priority for many residents in Bengaluru.
- The city seems to have embraced a more streamlined approach to managing laundry, with an evident pattern of households giving out the essential chore once every 3 days!
- Moreover, the quantity of items in each laundry order is noteworthy. On average, households are giving out a minimum of 10 items to new-age laundry services.
- Here's a fun fact…did you know that men’s shirts are the most common item given for laundry? Bengalureans are giving out a staggering 13 shirts per week for laundry. Extrapolate that with the many laundry services available in the city, and you would be surprised at the scale. Yep, that's how many of us send out our shirts for laundry every week. It's like an invite to a sensational party; and we are all welcome to join!
- One of the most intriguing shifts is the preference for getting wash services done outside the home. In a typical laundry basket, a substantial 60% of the items that are now outsourced to a professional laundry service are wash services. It's a departure from the traditional “do-your-laundry-at-home”, indicating a growing trust in the expertise offered by external laundry services. This insight is a clear indicator of the habit change happening within the category.
- And then there's the matter of bed linen. We've noticed a trend where residents happily hand over their sheets and pillow covers for cleaning once every 3 days. Yes, you read right every 3 days! It's a small change that is making a significant impact on preference for overall hygiene and comfort.
- Bengaluru’s environmentally conscious consumers are also shining in these laundry choices. An impressive 25 lakh litres of water was saved collectively at just one new-age laundry service provider.
- Another interesting observation from the same laundry provider is the return of recycled paper packaging bags. A remarkable number of our city folks are choosing to close the loop by returning the bags. Guess what? A significant 25% of these bags are being returned! That’s a major way of contributing to a more sustainable reuse cycle. Way to go Bengaluru!
- What about saving time by outsourcing one’s laundry, you ask? The ease of outsourcing laundry has translated into tangible time savings for Bengaluru residents. They have smartly saved over 291,000 minutes collectively by not engaging in the time-consuming process of doing laundry at home. This data, too, is just from one laundry service. No more fussing around with laundry at home - we've got better things to do!
So, as keen observers of Bengaluru's evolving lifestyle, it's heartening for us to witness these nuanced changes in our laundry habits. We're not just washing, ironing, and dry-cleaning clothes; we're all marching towards sustainability, efficiency, and a more convenient way of life. It’s about time!
As a laundry brand, we will continue to observe, adapt, and contribute to the positive transformation of our city, one laundry basket at a time!
Any wonder that everyone in Bengaluru is grinning from year to year?
Happy 2024 folks!
